Portumna Retirement Village is situated close to the River Shannon and a short walk from the picturesque town of Portumna.
The nursing home at Portumna Retirement Village opened in 2007. Since then it has won awards for the quality of care and has been very favourably commented upon by HIQA (Health Information and Quality Authority). The most recent inspection report from HIQA can be accessed here.
In addition, the nursing home is the only nursing home in south east Galway recognised by the leading health insurance companies, including VHI, Laya Healthcare, Aviva and Vanbreda International.
The nursing home can provide accommodation to sixty three residents. Most accommodation is by way of private rooms, but there are also twin rooms available should couples wish to share. All rooms have en-suites. Each room has its own TV.
In addition, there is a choice of day rooms (on both floors), quiet visiting rooms, a small library, and a hair salon. The retirement village also has its own chapel and a community & social centre.
The nursing home at Portumna Retirement Village caters for the individual needs of each resident - an essential aspect of the caring process. The Care Manager endeavours to match the ideal staff member to each resident, to cater for preferences of male or female, quiet or lively, casual or formal. Activities of daily living are carried out at the resident's pace, with the emphases on maximising potential and personal control, enabling choice and respect for dignity. By taking the time to get to know each of our residents, we nurture a friendly and happy atmosphere that residents, relatives and staff alike warm to right away.

Short Term Care
At Portumna Retirement Village we offer a combination of medical holiday packages which can include staying for a couple of nights (priced on a per night basis) or a couple of weeks as required.
The short term care package has become extremely popular with families who have been caring for an older relative at home and who require a break for whatever the reason.
Respite Care
The respite care services provided at Portumna Retirement Village offer full-time home carers the opportunity to take a break from their ongoing care provision. These services are extremely beneficial to the many carers out there who need some time for themselves and their families.

Convalescence Care
A hospital stay can be a very traumatic experience for a patient and very often, whilst the need for acute hospital care is no longer present, there can be a need for a period of convalescence to assist the patient recover.
Portumna Retirement Village is experienced in caring for the convalescing patient. From time to time, this care may be funded by the HSE (in exceptional cases) or can be part funded by the leading health insurance companies.
